Video- Atomic Green Ribbed Nymph

Atomic Green Ribbed Nymph was created to offer strong contrast in deep pools or murky water. It’s designed to be fished in fast currents, behind structures and large rocks where trout often hide. For this reason, I made the body dark—but not completely black. I used a blend of squirrel dubbing in black and pepper (a mix of natural pine squirrel and dyed black squirrel fur).

The body is ribbed with UV-reflective hot spot thread—Troutline Hot Spot Thread—in green. I prefer green because, lately, orange and red have been used so extensively that fish have become familiar with them and tend to reject those flies more often than the green ones.

I even did some testing: in the same pool, I fished with identical flies, one ribbed with orange and the other with green. The green-ribbed nymph was clearly more productive.

For the thorax, I used a mix of synthetic dubbing with UV-reflective fibers. Many anglers swear by UV materials—frankly, I’ve never tested their effectiveness scientifically, but hey, a bit of trust in our fellow fishermen doesn’t hurt.

One unique feature of this fly is the conical body shape, which allows the partridge hackle to stay as open as possible and work more effectively in strong currents.

So that’s it—just a nice fly that works 🙂
