Perdi Pheasant Tail Nymph

Ok guys, here is a nymph I have been enjoying tying more and more lately. A friend of mine who is going to Lapland asked me for this pattern, so I thought I would share it with you too.

It is basically a slim, heavy perdigon-style nymph combined with natural pheasant tail barbs. I think it is a very good option for tiers who do not really enjoy working with UV resin, or for those who simply love natural materials and the way they behave in the water.

Compared to the classic Spanish perdigon nymphs, the only modern elements here are the oversized bead and the small resin-coated back area. The rest of the fly keeps the natural pheasant tail body, which gives it a more lifelike and insect-like look underwater.

What I really like about this nymph is that it is easy to tie, sinks fast, and still keeps that natural character that many of us appreciate in traditional materials. In a way, it gives you some of the efficiency of a heavy competition-style fly, but without losing the softer, more natural appearance of the insects we try to imitate.

Materials for the fly presented in the video bellow:

  • Size #16 Jig hook
  • Brown tying thread – Sumo 30 DEN
  • Tail and body made of pheasant tail barbs – natural color
  • Ribbing made of tinsel wire ( gold or copper as you wish, in this video I used gold wire)
  • Thorax made of Troutline Crystal Body Thread – color code A3
  • Bead: 3.5mm slotted
  • Coating- black uv resin
