The Classic Pheasant Tail Nymph is considered even today a “must” fly for every fisherman. It is a good searching pattern even was made good years ago. Frank Sawyers mention it in 1950! It imitates mayflies in all sizes and colors, maybe because it is a generic nymph is so good and effective.

Materials:

  • Hook: Demmon St900BL #14
  • Thread: Rusty
  • Weight: lead wire
  • Tail: tips from barbs ( pheasant tail feather is mostly used )
  • Body: pheasant tail barbs
  • Ribbing: copper wire
  • Wing-back: pheasant barbs
  • Thorax: peacock herl
  • Legs: pheasant barbs – tips only
