f I had to make my first steps in nymph fishing and choose only two perdigon nymphs, I would start with one brown perdigon and one olive perdigon.
Why these two colours? Because brown and olive are among the most natural and effective colours in rivers. Many aquatic insects have brown, olive or olive-brown tones, from mayfly nymphs to small caddis larvae and other bottom-dwelling food sources. For this reason, these two colours cover a very wide range of fishing situations.
The Brown Hot Spot Perdigon is the more visible and attractive option. The brown body keeps the fly natural, while the orange hot spot adds a small trigger point. This makes it a very good searching pattern when you fish new water, deeper runs, faster currents or slightly coloured rivers. It is a fly that helps you find active trout and grayling quickly.

Materials:
- Hook: Demmon ST 320 #16

- Ribbing: Tinsel 0.9mm copper
- Tail: Coq de Leon Pardo Corzuno Rojizo
- Hot Spot : 10/0 Grip Thread – orange
- Tungsten – Slotted Copper color 3mm or 3.3mm
- Coating: UV Resin – Medium Viscosity
The Olive Perdigon is the more discreet and natural choice. It has no hot spot, which makes it very useful in clear water, on pressured fish or when trout and grayling are more selective. The olive colour imitates many natural insects and offers a clean, simple profile that works from spring to autumn.

Materials:
- Hook: Demmon ST 320 #16
- Thread: Champion Micro Split Thread : A5
- Ribbing: UV Perdigon Tinsel: A9
- Tail: Coq de Leon Pardo Corzuno Claro
- Tungsten – Slotted Silver color 3mm-3.3mm or 3.5mm depending of how fast and deep is the river
- Coating: UV Resin – Medium Viscosity
Both nymphs have the main advantage of perdigon flies: they sink fast and reach the feeding zone quickly. This is very important in Euro nymphing, Czech nymphing and upstream nymph fishing, where control, depth and presentation make the difference.

So, if you want to start fishing with perdigon nymphs, a brown hot spot perdigon and a simple olive perdigon are two excellent choices. One gives you extra attraction, the other gives you a subtle natural presentation. Together, they cover many river conditions and offer a strong starting point for modern nymph fishing.
