Dear friends,
Today I want to show you one of my basic nymphs, a pattern I usually start fishing from April: the Pulsar Peeping Caddis.
During this period I prefer nymph fishing, and the Peeping Caddis is one of my confidence flies. Over time, I developed this version to be as effective as possible when fishing around structure such as large rocks, submerged trees, or wood trapped on the riverbed, and also in deep pools where the fly needs to look alive and move in an enticing way over short distances.
Because I often fish this fly by trying to trigger trout strikes while playing it between rocks and through broken currents, I needed it to have as much movement as possible. That is why I added a partridge collar, which gives the nymph more life in the water.
Later, I also looked for a way to make the fly more visible. Instead of using a green or yellow material for tying the head of the fly, I added UV ribbing, which proved to be truly effective in darker pools and deeper water.

Materials:
- –Demmon Supreme Jig Hook J100 in size 10-12-14
- -thread – any you like, black or brown is the best option ( I prefer Sumo Power Thread 50DEN )
- -head made of green UV Body Ribbing
- -legs made of partridge barbs ( grey neck )
- -body case made of mix of dubbing: Brownish Cased Caddis Nymph Dubbing
- -hackle made of 2 turns of partridge
- -Bead of slotted tungsten in 3.8mm, 4mm or 4.6mm
After more than 20 years of fishing with this pattern, I can say that it has proven to be an excellent fly time and time again. It is heavy, sinks fast, and reaches the right depth quickly, which is very important when fishing deep pools or water with strong structure. Because it is tied on a jig hook, the fly sits naturally in the water, and the partridge hackle gives it a very attractive movement, even in the slightest current. The UV material also makes the fly more visible in the water, especially in darker or deeper places, but without frightening the fish. All these small details make it a very convincing nymph and a pattern I still trust today.
