Micro Small Juicy Walt’s Worm -Tying Video

When the water is low, cold, and crystal clear, and the fish are inactive and “attractor” nymphs stop working, I switch to very small flies tied in a minimalist style.

I’ve been tying this fly for over 15 years, and it has always been effective in exactly these conditions. Over time, I refined the pattern: I now tie it on jig hooks, with a much slimmer body than I used to (it was more bulky in the past), and I completely removed the tail.

It looks somewhat like a Walt’s Worm, which is why I renamed it Jelly Juicy Walt’s Worm. One more key detail: the underbody is made with tinsel, which creates a very interesting translucent effect in the water.

As I mentioned, in the past I used to tie this nymph on larger hooks using Hends Body Glass. For the last few years, I’ve been using Micro Wormy Body, which is thinner and very soft, allowing you to stretch it and get even slimmer bodies—much better suited for small hooks.

So below you have the list of materials used:

  • Hook: jig #20
  • Thread: Sumo yellow 50DEN
  • Underbody: Perdigon Flat Tinsel A9 color
  • Body: Troutline Wormy Body in green leech
  • Thorax: Troutline Atomic Dubbing 01 color
  • Tungsten – micro slim oversized 3mm tungsten bead
